ABOUT LIEDON LUKIO (LIETO UPPER SECONDARY SCHOOL)

Building Bright Futures

Lieto Upper Secondary School is a medium-size upper secondary school in Lieto, which is a nice small town near Turku, the former capital of Finland. The school is located near a secondary school with a school library, and in the immediate vicinity we have a spectacular sports centre with a modern gym and all the necessary sports fields.

Our school was founded in 1970, and since then, we have had over 3,000 graduates. At the moment we have around 250 students. Most students are aged between 15-19 years, and it usually takes three years to graduate, even though you can do it in four years, or in some cases even two years.

We can choose from several different subjects and courses. One of our school’s specialities is a large collection of Physical Education courses; there are 15 options to choose from. Computerisation is a key theme in our studies. All the students have their own laptops that they use for daily schoolwork. In order to graduate, students have to complete a series of final exams as well as 75 courses. The final exams, also called matriculation examinations, are considered to be the crescendo of our three-year-long studies.

Our school is highly interested in internationality. We have a wide selection of languages: English, Swedish, French and German. You can also study for example Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and Italian as online courses. We also participate actively in international projects, for example Erasmus+ projects, and have partner schools in several countries, for instance in Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Slovenia and Spain. At the moment we have three Erasmus+ projects: Amazing Race (dealing with sports and health), Circular Economy (sustainable development) and EuMiLa (European Minority Languages). In addition, we are in a Nordplus project dealing with problem-solving skills.

The atmosphere among students and teachers is very informal. We only have around 30 students or less in a class, which makes the learning environment more peaceful. Bullying is incredibly rare and the teachers care for the students from the bottom of their heart.

In conclusion, Lieto Upper Secondary School is a great choice for everyone.
